PETER LINDBERGH
A Different Vision on Fashion Photography
September 10, 2016 – February 12, 2017
Kunsthal Rotterdam

On January 28, 2017 we’ve had the privilege to meet one of the most influential fashion photographers of this century: Peter Lindbergh.
During a personal tour, he showed us his work and shared incredible stories.

I you haven’t seen it yet, go check out Peter Lindbergh’s exhibition “A Different Vision on Fashion Photography” at the Kunsthal Rotterdam. It showcases over 220 photos and previously unseen material from personal notes, storyboards, polaroids and films in a large-scale retrospective of the photographers’s work. His beautiful black and white images redefine the norms of beauty.

MODEFRABRIEK – MINT Press Presentation on international sustainable fashion
2015

Mint Press Event on sustainable Fashion

MINT is a unique tradeshow-event in Amsterdam, part of the established fair Modefabriek. Modefabriek has been the key player in the Benelux’ fashion industry for the past decade. With over 600 brands on 40.000 m2, it attracts up to 17.000 visitors each summer edition, the vast majority of which are buyers with decision-making authority. Mint selects labels based on style and level of sustainability. This year they organized a press event on sustainable fashion and they showed a great variety of credible, stylish and high-level forward fashion brands. We were very impressed by the quality of the designs and the stories behind the brands and we would like to introduce some of these brands to you:

Study NY Born and raised in Montreal, Canada, Tara St James moved to New York City in 2004. After 10 years designing mens and womenswear in both Canada and the US, Tara launched the New York based label Study NY. Conceptual design & sustainability define this women’s RTW brand. Study cuts & sews collections in NYC’s garment district using both ethical fabrics and production methods. Many elements from the collections collaborate with artisans around the world; for example, locally sourced Peruvian alpaca is used in much of the knitwear. Tara St James thrives on challenging her own preconceptions about design. Though vocal about her choice to use sustainable and ethical design principles for her label, Tara wants to be judged the same way all designers are judged, ostensibly for her design.

Linda Mai Phung Linda Mai Phung is a French fashion designer based in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam where she founded her eponymous label in 2010. Her designs are inspired from her journeys and peregrinations around the world. Each season, her new collection tells the stories of creative stopovers and textiles encounters from her trip to a new country, like a fashion travel journal. From a stunning lacquered silk dress to a traditional embroidered skirt ; and a feminine organic cotton blouse ; Linda Mai Phung’s designs wander between tradition and modernity at the confluence of Asia and Europe. Linda Mai Phung’s collections unite qualitative craftmanship and style for an inventive, feminine and elegant wardrobe. For this collection she used traditional Vietnamese patterns.

We Are Islanders The result of a continuing examination of what it means to live on the island of Ireland or any island -this globe included- We Are Islanders looks to reflect the necessity to look outward, not inward and to challenge accepted norms. In consideration of the social and environmental story of out time, We Are Islanders create trans-seasonal collections that marry craft with new skills and celebrate the journey created by process and not plan. We Are Islanders is a design label based in Dublin, Ireland. Produced locally using only sustainable materials, they refuse to compromise on style and quality while remaining dedicated to better practise.

Ratna Ho + Studio Mulder An enterprise founded in 2014 by Ratno Ho and Pascal Mulder. Together they collaborate on designing both practical, durable, powerful and expressive bags. Central in their partnership are the used technical textiles, fabrics and specialized techniques. The Studio Mulder bag can be recognized by its stylish simplicity, expressed in uncompromising materials. The seemingly endless possibilities in colors, textures and coatings create the ultimate Ratna Ho-bag.

ANNE GORKE ANNE GORKE was founded in 2012 and is based in Weimar, where the Bauhaus originates from and where its spirit is still apparent in the young design scene. ANNE GORKE‘s designs feature pure architectural lines and sleek elegance with a soft touch of femininity and an ironic twist. What distinguishes ANNE GORKE from other brands is its ecological spirit: Working exclusively with organic textiles does not only ensure fair conditions, but also meets the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship, entirely made in Germany. Non toxic, additive free and highly enjoyable.
